Lyon’s Festival of Lights (8-11 December) is part of the religious history of the city.
About 4 million visitors can admire the modern as well as the traditional lights shows to inaugurate the Immaculate Conception every 8th December.

Lyon’s light planning has become an essential component of the urban landscape. Urban lighting also plays a key role in the international development of Lyon.
A long-term lighting of the new Oxygène Tower was planned, especially its upper-parts that was optimized during the Festival of Lights.

The best French artists participated in Lyon’s international Light Festival
Most of the artists and students were talented and very popular designers, architects, video makers, enlighteners and multimedia artists.
International artist Marie-Jeanne Gauthé was in charge of showing original photos on the Place des Terreaux. She created the video shows for the opening of the Chinese year in France.
In a few days the visitors could see a huge urban flipper in Place des Célestins, a flock of enlighted balloons over the Louis XIV statue or even the wonderful totems on the Berges du Rhône…
Urban lighting plays a key role in the development of modern cities like Lyon
The city of Lyon created LUCI (Lighting Urban Community International), a network of over 60 cities world-wide that are convinced that lighting plays an essential role in urban, economic and social development.
Light more, consume less is the new motto of Lyon city:
The Festival of Lights consumes only 0.1% of the city’s annual lighting energy. What is more, the visitors could take the public transport like the buses or the high-speed train from Saint-Exupéry airport.
No doubt, Lyon City’s 2011 Festival of Lights gave the visitors an unforgettable souvenir of this great and unique international urban light event.
